This afternoon was suture lab. I used to be a vegetarian, so I don’t have a ton of experience with mangled dead animal parts, and consequently, I had a slight worry that this might be difficult for me. But honestly, after gross lab, I’m glad to find that there’s really nothing relating to dead things that can gross me out.
At one point, I was working on my subcuticular suture, when a big jet of blood shot out of one end of the pig’s foot. I was pretty intently focused on getting my stitches right, and it startled the crap out of me. Otherwise, it was a pretty uneventful, though enjoyable lab.
I have to say though, it’s little things like this that get me really excited for things to come. In between studying for pharmacology (not fun) and studying for immunology (really not fun), and studying for all the other classes (equally not fun) we get these little brief respites from the classwork to see what is in store for us next year. It’s like a little flicker of light glimmering from the end of this long tunnel they call the M2 year.
